An Assam Boy Wins a Muay Thai Match Against a Thai Opponent

Dec 4 2022: Ambarish Ning Gogoi, a professional Muay Thai athlete from Assam and one of only eight from across India to compete internationally, recorded a memorable victory on November 12 at Patong Boxing Stadium.

Gogoi faced his thanachat on the night and won by 30-27 points. He defeated his Thai opponent in all rounds.

He has now added another win to his already long list of victories. It is worth noted that Ambarish Ning Gogoi is Assam’s first and only Muay Thai athlete.

Since 2016, he has been taking part in international fights. He currently fights professionally at Phuket Fight Club in Phuket, Thailand.

Ambarish Ning Gogoi is the son of late Kanak Gogoi and Mrs. Tripti Borgohain Gogoi. He was born in Langkashi village in Tinsukia district of Assam.

He grew up in Duliajan, where he attended St. Xaviers Higher Secondary School.

Muay Thai, also known as Thai boxing, has been a part of his life since 2016. It is a combat sport with the use of stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. This sport is known as the “art of eight limbs”, as it is characterised by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees and shins.
