Assam, as an educational hub of Eastern India, is set to bolster its higher education system with the upgrade of seven colleges to university status. This initiative will bring the total number of new universities established in the state since 2021 to 10.
On July 9, Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, held a meeting with the principals of the colleges selected for the upgrade. Among them is Kokrajhar Government College, located in Kokrajhar.
The new state universities will incorporate key features and benefits, aligning with the latest pedagogy as outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020. They will focus on improving infrastructure, increasing student intake, and transforming into multidisciplinary institutions. The universities will also promote collaboration in research and academics, offer more postgraduate seats, and enhance synergy between undergraduate and postgraduate.
