The Statehood Day of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura is celebrated every year on January 21.
These three states became independent under the North Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act of 1971, making this year their 51st foundation year. Meghalaya was a part of Assam after Independence, whereas Manipur and Tripura were princely states that were integrated into India in October 1949.
Several other national political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday extended greetings to Tripura, Manipur and Meghalaya on their respective statehood day.
The significance of celebrating the Tripura, Manipur, and Meghalaya Foundation Day is to commemorate the statehood of these three states. People hold cultural activities, sports meetings, and many other events to acknowledge and appreciate the rich culture, diversity, traditions, and tourism of Tripura, Manipur, and Meghalaya.
