Dec 13, 2022: Anusweta Deb, a higher secondary student from Assam’s Hailakandi, won a silver medal at the national level India International Innovation and Invention Expo (INEX 2022), which was organised by the Goa State Innovation Council.
Students from Russia, Poland, Iran, China, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and many other countries took part.
Anusweta, a Presicentia Senior Secondary School class XII student, wrote about “An experimental study on the effectiveness of a life jacket prepared from plastic waste materials.”
Anusweta explained the project’s details, saying that she created it to assist people who were stranded during the Assam floods.
The life-saving jacket is made from waste materials. It is a low cost life jacket and one can purchase it by just spending Rs 110. A jacket can support 75 kg of weight.
She said that Assam is a flood prone area and many people die due to this natural calamity. This inexpensive life jacket can come in handy during floods, she added.
“I was extremely happy when I saw that the people are practically using the low cost jacket during the devastating unprecedented floods in Silchar town in last summer”, she said.
She has previously received three national level awards including the Child Scientist Award for projecting this model representing Assam.
It was first projected in the district level National Children Science Congress in December, 2018 and during COVID-19 pandemic, some of the competitions were held online.
