Police Arrests Absconding Accused in Bombay Riots of 1992

Dec 12, 2022: Mumbai Police on Sunday apprehended an absconding accused of 1992 riot who had been on the run for the last 18 years.

The 1992 Bombay riots ravaged the city, killing several people and destroying properties.

The accused has been identified as Tabraiz Azim Khan (47) and was arrested near bus depot in Dindoshi.

Mansuri, along with eight other accused, was wanted in the 1992 riots case and charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), according to the local police.

A court acquitted two of the accused, and one died. The remaining six failed to appear in court for hearings. In 2004, the court declared the six accused, including Masuri as absconding.

Mansuri had been living in Malad for the past 18 years, according to police. He had assumed a new identity and worked as a real estate agent.
