In a recent cabinet meeting chaired by the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam government announced several significant decisions to enhance the state’s development.

These decisions encompass various areas, including healthcare, education, administrative reforms, and regional organization.

One Key decision is reorganizing Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Blocks in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and neighbouring General Area Districts. This restructuring process will also impact Anganwadi Centres (AWCs), mini AWCs, and Supervisors in districts such as Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri, Dhubri, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Nalbari, Kamrup, Darrang, and Sonitpur.

The primary objective of this initiative is to ensure that each ICDS Project is situated within a single district, promoting improved geographical and administrative coordination.

To bolster the healthcare sector, the Assam Cabinet has announced the expansion of MBBS and BDS seats in medical colleges across the state. Additionally, reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBC) and the More Other Backward Classes (MOBC) have been implemented in medical courses, ensuring greater access to medical education for these communities.

Furthermore, the government has prioritized medical care for athletes, recognizing the importance of sports and promoting the well-being of sportspersons.

The Assam Cabinet meeting also discussed the recruitment of retired executive engineers by autonomous councils, addressing the need for administrative reforms in the state. Autonomous councils will be recruiting retired executive engineers.

The Assam government has decided to eliminate physical non-judicial stamps to modernize and simplify documentation processes.

These decisions reflect the government’s commitment to fostering development across sectors.
