Kokrajhar Torch Rally Demands Udalguri Constituency

Kokrajhar town recently organized a torch rally to voice their demands concerning the creation of the Udalguri Parliament Constituency.

The participants called for an increase in the number of Scheduled Tribe (ST) Reserved Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) in the BTR region, urging the count to reach 10.

Additionally, they emphasized the need to retain the unity of Bodo-dominated areas in the draft delimitation of LACs in Assam, without dividing them based on minor population variations.

Bodofa UN Brahma Super 50 Mission Holds Counseling Program for Engineering Students

Today, a Personal Introduction and Counselling program took place at the District Library in Kokrajhar, featuring the Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Super 50 Mission – a coaching initiative for JEE (Mains & Advanced) engineering students.

The event served as a platform for engaging with the Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Super 50 Mission’s engineering students.

In this session, BTR CEM Shri Pramod Boro stressed the significance of wholeheartedly committing themselves to the path of engineering and making valuable contributions to the nation-building process.

Notable attendees included Deputy CEM Shri Gobinda Ch Basumatary, EMs Shri Reo Reoa Narzihary, Shri Rakesh Brahma, Shri Ukil Mushahary, Shri Wilson Hasda, MCLA Shri Madhab Chetry, Former MLA Shri Chandi Basumatary, and senior officials from the Government of BTR.

ABVP Kokrajhar Unit Honors 870 HSLC & HS Students in Grand Ceremony

 Today, the Kokrajhar unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) extended its recognition to 870 HSLC and HS students.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of Chief Guest Shri Biswajit Daimary, Assam Assembly Speaker, as well as Guest of Honour Sri Simanta Kumar Baishya, ABVP Assam State Secretary, and Birkang Basumatary, Secretary of the Kokrajhar Unit. 

This event served as a platform to honor and acknowledge the academic achievements of these students, highlighting their dedication and hard work.

Kokrajhar Government College Among Seven Colleges in Assam to be Upgraded to University Status

Assam, as an educational hub of Eastern India, is set to bolster its higher education system with the upgrade of seven colleges to university status. This initiative will bring the total number of new universities established in the state since 2021 to 10.

On July 9, Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, held a meeting with the principals of the colleges selected for the upgrade. Among them is Kokrajhar Government College, located in Kokrajhar.

The new state universities will incorporate key features and benefits, aligning with the latest pedagogy as outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020. They will focus on improving infrastructure, increasing student intake, and transforming into multidisciplinary institutions. The universities will also promote collaboration in research and academics, offer more postgraduate seats, and enhance synergy between undergraduate and postgraduate.

Kokrajhar Set to Host Group F Matches in 132nd Durand Cup Football Tournament

The 132nd edition of the Durand Cup, a renowned football tournament, is scheduled to take place from 3rd August to 3rd September. This year, the tournament will be held across 4 cities- Kolkata, Shillong, Guwahati, and Kokrajhar.

In Kokrajhar the tournament will kick off on 6th August with Group F matches, featuring teams such as Odisha Football Club (OFC), Rajasthan United Football Club (RUFC), Bodoland FC (BFC), and Indian Army (IA). 

In Kolkata, three Groups will be played- Group A, B and C.

  • Group A matches will showcase the skills of Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG), East Bengal (EB), Rounglass Punjab (RGP), and Bangladesh (BDS).
  • Group B matches includes (Mohammedan Sporting Club) MDS, Mumbai City Football Club (MCFC), Jamshedpur Football Club (JFC), and Indian Navy Football Team (INFT).
  • Group C matches, where Gokulam Kerala Football Club (GKFC), Kerala Blasters Football Club (KBFC), Bengaluru Football Club (BFC), and Indian Air Force Football Team (IAFT) will vie for victory.

Moving to Guwahati, Group D matches will see Northeast United Football Club (NEUFC), Football Club Goa (FCG), Delhi Football Club (DFC), and Bhutan (BHS) competing against each other.

Shillong will be the venue for Group E matches, with Shillong Lajong Football Club (SLFC), Hyderabad Football Club (HFC), Chennaiyin Football Club (CFC), and Nepal (NS) battling it out on the field.

National Fish Farmers Day Celebrates Growth and Entrepreneurial Excellence in BTR

The practice of Fish farming, known as pisciculture, is witnessing an unprecedented surge in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). This positive trend was highlighted during a special occasion held at the Fish Farming Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Kajalgaon, Chirang, to celebrate National Fish Farmers Day.

Distinguished attendees, such as EMs Shri Rakesh Brahma and Shri Dhananjay Basumatary, graced the event with their presence. The objective of the gathering was to further promote and enhance the pisciculture ecosystem in the region.

As a part of the event, a well-deserved recognition was given to the top 100 progressive fish farmers in BTR. They were felicitated and awarded a cash prize of ₹20,000 each, acknowledging their remarkable entrepreneurial efforts in the field.

The event also focused on shedding light on various aspects of scientific fish farming and highlighted the immense potential of this industry.

Orientation Programme for Members of BTCLA

A special orientation programme was held today at the BTCLA Auditorium Hall in Kokrajhar. The objective of the programme was to bring together members of the Bodoland Territorial Council Legislative Assembly (BTCLA) and provide them with a comprehensive understanding of parliamentary procedures and their roles, particularly within the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).

The event was attended by important figures such as BTR Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro, Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) Speaker Shri Biswajit Daimary, BTCLA Speaker Shri Kati Ram Baro, and MLA Shri Bhubon Pegu.

The programme not only saw the participation of BTCLA members but also senior officials from the Government of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

30th Assam Aquatic Championship Begins with Inter-District Competition in Sarusajai

The 30th Assam Aquatic Championship kicked off today at Sarusajai, marking the beginning of a three-day event that will conclude on Sunday, July 9. The championship is being  organized by the Assam Swimming Association.

This inter-district competition brings together athletes from across Assam to showcase their skills at the Dr Zakir Hussain Aquatic Complex in Guwahati Sarusajai.

The opening ceremony featured the lighting of the lamp by Bhaskar Ranjan Das, the All India Swimming Association vice president and Assam Swimming Association secretary.

With over 500 athletes in attendance, the event commenced with the hoisting of the Assam Swimming Association flag. 

The formal inauguration of the championship will take place in the evening at 7pm by Nandita Garlosa, the Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare of the Government of Assam.

Excitement is high as approximately 520 participants gear up for the 144 events, including diving and water polo competitions, held across sub-junior, junior, and senior categories.

Two-Day Training Program Empowers Anganwadi Workers in Emergency Child and Women Care During Emergencies

The two-day training program, which started on July 6 at the DRDA Conference Hall in Chirang, has reached its conclusion today. This program has focused on Child and Women Care in Relief Camps and Temporary Shelters during emergencies, aiming to equip 46 Anganwadi workers from various parts of the district with essential skills and knowledge.

The comprehensive sessions and activities offered during the program have enhanced participants’ understanding of providing care in emergency relief settings.

Shri Arup Choudhury, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chirang, was present at the opening ceremony.
