Dec 23, 2022: On December 23, 2022, 16 Indian Army jawans were killed in a tragic road accident in North Sikkim.
According to reports, an army vehicle carrying the jawans crashed off a cliff into a deep ditch, killing 16 people on board.
Unfortunately, it has come to the fore that three of the deceased jawans were Junior Commissioned Officers (JCO).
The incident took place at Jema Hills, a remote area about 15 kilometres from Lachen town in Sikkim.
The vehicle that crashed into the ditch was reportedly part of a three-vehicle convoy that left Chatten in the morning and was headed to Thangu.
The incident occurred as it was trying to negotiate a sharp turn.
A rescue mission was immediately launched, and four injured soldiers were airlifted.
