3 Killed, dozen Missing After Explosion on Channel Island of Jersey

Dec 11, 2022: At least three people were killed and around a dozen others are missing after an explosion at a residential building in the Channel Island of Jersey on Saturday.

The local police were notified of the incident just before 4 am (local time). Robin Smith, chief police of Jersey said that emergency services responded to the site after the police were alerted about the incident.

According to sources, the emergency services had extinguished the fire at the site of the explosion, Smith added.

He stated that the three-story building has “completely collapsed” and called the situation a “devastating scene”.

Robin Smith, said, adding that people were evacuated from several floors.

He reported that around 20 to 30 people have been taken to a nearby town hall for shelter.

Smith added that a search and rescue operation has been launched for the missing.

Jersey is an island territory off the northwest coast of France under British Crown Dependency and is not part of the United Kingdom itself.

The authorities have launched an investigation to find the cause of the incident.
