The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) government has officially announced that June 12 will be recognized as Martyrs Day.
This annual observance day is dedicated to honoring the death anniversary of Sujit Narzary, who is recognized as the first martyr of the Bodoland movement.
Sujit Narzary, a prominent and revered figure in the struggle for Bodoland’s autonomy, tragically lost his life on June 12, 1987, at an age of 15.
In accordance with the government’s declaration, all offices of the entrusted department and educational institutions in the Bodoland Territorial Region will observe the day while ensuring that normal functions remain uninterrupted.
