July 4, 2023

Assam Petrochemical Plant’s first methanol consignment to Bangladesh has garnered praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as it signifies a significant step towards establishing Assam as a major petrochemical exporter.

The Prime Minister responded to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s tweet, emphasizing the positive impact of this industrial development on the petrochemical sector in Assam and Northeast India as a whole.

The event took place on July 1, when Chief Minister Sarma flagged off the first shipment of methanol to Bangladesh from the Assam Petrochemicals Plant located in Namrup.

During the event, Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the successful inauguration of Assam Petrochemicals Limited’s 500 TPD plant by Prime Minister Modi on April 14, 2023.

The plant has already started methanol production, and the Chief Minister expressed his delight in initiating the transportation of methanol to neighboring countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. This development is expected to further establish Assam as a prominent hub for petrochemical activities.
