Assam Petrochemical Plant’s First Methanol Consignment to Bangladesh Lauded by PM Modi

Assam Petrochemical Plant’s first methanol consignment to Bangladesh has garnered praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as it signifies a significant step towards establishing Assam as a major petrochemical exporter.

The Prime Minister responded to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s tweet, emphasizing the positive impact of this industrial development on the petrochemical sector in Assam and Northeast India as a whole.

The event took place on July 1, when Chief Minister Sarma flagged off the first shipment of methanol to Bangladesh from the Assam Petrochemicals Plant located in Namrup. 

During the event, Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the successful inauguration of Assam Petrochemicals Limited’s 500 TPD plant by Prime Minister Modi on April 14, 2023.

The plant has already started methanol production, and the Chief Minister expressed his delight in initiating the transportation of methanol to neighboring countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. This development is expected to further establish Assam as a prominent hub for petrochemical activities.

CBS’s plan to initiate a Ph.D. program in collaboration with Bodoland University

Kokrajhar: The Center for Bodo Studies (CBS), affiliated with Bodoland University, is actively involved in promoting and preserving the Bodo language and culture. 

Recently, CEM Pramod Boro met with Dr. Binay Kumar Brahma, the Director of CBS, to discuss  and evaluate the center’s programs and activities.

During the meeting, the CEM was informed about CBS’s plan to initiate a Ph.D. program in collaboration with Bodoland University. The center has already received a positive response to its Diploma Program in Bodo Language from the community.

To further enhance research on different aspects of Bodo people and culture, the BTR CEM suggested organizing workshops on trending research topics.

Additionally, the incorporation of members from various national and international universities in committees was encouraged, promoting a collaborative approach to research.

EM Shri Reo Reoa Narzihary, Dr. Subung Basumatary, the Registrar of Bodoland University, and other esteemed individuals were also present at the meeting.

Kokrajhar Launches Microsoft Diversity Skill Program on District Day

Kokrajhar: In celebration of 40th District Day on July 1st, Kokrajhar district unveiled the Microsoft Diversity Skill Program (MDSP) training by Microsoft and the Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM).

The initiative, known as GWDAN MIJING (New Hope), was organized by the District Administration of Kokrajhar, with esteemed guests including Minister Sri Urkhao Gwra Brahma, MLAs, and the District Commissioner of Kokrajhar, Varnali Deka.

GWDAN MIJING aims to empower 50 recovering drug addicts from the Salvation Foundation by providing them with training and support. The program will consist of four modules: Digital Productivity, Communication Skills, Employability, and Entrepreneurship.

Successful completion of the program will result in certifications from Microsoft and ASDM, and assistance will be offered for job placements.

The training facility has been established by NRDS Management Pvt Ltd., the program’s training partner, ensuring a well-equipped and conducive learning environment. The enthusiasm and willingness displayed by the inmates to embark on this training signify their strong desire for personal transformation.

BTR Gears Up to Host 132nd Edition of Durand Cup 2023

Kokrajhar: Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) is abuzz with excitement as it prepares to host the 132nd edition of the Durand Cup in August.

CEM Pramod Boro took to Twitter to share a sneak peek of the ongoing preparations at SAI Stadium, where the football tournament will be held.

The Durand Cup, known for its rich history and legacy, will kick off on August 3 and continue until September 3. As the preparations are in full swing, Kokrajhar, the host city, is getting ready for the grandest football of the season.

Foundation Stone Laid For Three New Anganwadi Centres

Under the auspices of the Social Welfare Department of the Assam Government, a significant event took place on July 2nd. 

The occasion involved the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of three new Anganwadi centers in various locations. 

These centers are set to be established in Paneri constituency, as well as in the Borongajuli Tea Garden-Oco and Bergaon Tea Garden.

ALA Speaker Biswajit Daimary had the honor of performing the foundation stone-laying ceremony. 

This attempt is part of a broader mission to enhance the quality of services and facilities available to the community, with a particular emphasis on child care and welfare.

20 Assam Police Personnel Recognized for Successful Operation against KLO(KN) Insurgency

A group of twenty Assam police officers stationed in Kokrajhar district have received well-deserved recognition for their exceptional performance in a significant operation against the KLO(KN) insurgency. This remarkable achievement led to their honor of receiving the prestigious DGP Assam Commendation Certificate, highlighting their successful mission at the Chakrashila hills in April 2023.

Among the awarded officers were Kokrajhar Additional SP Nabanita Sarma, Assistant SP (P) Mahato AK Sriprasad, SI Latuk Das, Kokrajhar OC Moneswar Bey, Inspector Manoj Narzary, Nabajit Das Baghri, SI Nip Jyoti Nath, Diganta Saloi, Indira Brahma, UBC Sanjib Nath, Biju Kumar Nath, ABC Bapon Ray, Ajay Kumar Brahma, Burla Muchahary, Hrishikesh Muchahary, Bipan Chandra Roy, Khargeswar Nath, Havaldar Ananda Chandra Ray, Amar Chaudhury, and AHG Jarbin Marak.

Kokrajhar District Administration Organizes Programs for Annual District Day Celebration

Kokrajhar: Kokrajhar district celebrated its 40th annual District Day with enthusiasm on July 1st. The district administration and stakeholders collaborated to organize various programs for this important event, benefiting different segments of the community and promoting overall development.

As part of the celebrations, essential materials were distributed to groups like farmers, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and weavers. A girls’ football team received sports materials, and a freesbee match added excitement to the festivities.

Infrastructure projects were also initiated, including a waiting shed cum library at Bashbari High School, aiming to enhance learning opportunities. The foundation stone was laid for a Mushroom Hub Unit. Additionally, a mobile veterinary ambulance was inaugurated, and a community library at Bishmuri ME School had its foundation stone laid.

To address local concerns, a public meeting facilitated direct communication between residents and authorities, fostering a productive dialogue.

The event witnessed the presence of esteemed guests, including Cabinet Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma, MLA Lawrence Islary, EM Ranjit Basumatary, Reorea Narzihary, DC Kokrajhar, CHDs from various departments of BTR, and other respected dignitaries. 

Assam’s Uma Chetry Selected for Indian Women’s National Cricket Team to Face Bangladesh

Assam’s cricket sensation, Uma Chetry, has secured her spot in the Indian Women’s National Cricket Team.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently revealed the squads for the upcoming three-match T20 and ODI series against Bangladesh. The matches are scheduled to be held at the prestigious Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

Uma Chetry’s outstanding performance and hard work have resulted in her selection for the T20 and ODI squads, with Harmanpreet Kaur leading the team. She is known for her exceptional skills as a wicket-keeper and gained recognition in the world of cricket.

Representing the Assam Cricket Association (ACA), Uma Chetry has become a respected player among the women cricketers in India.
