On Tuesday, the principal of a college in Assam’s Bongaigaon district was arrested for stealing student scholarship funds.
According to sources, the accused, identified as Shahidul Islam, is the principal of CK College in Abhayapuri.
He was charged with stealing student scholarship fund from the 2017-18 Ishan Uday Scheme.
Islam, who was arrested at his college, is being questioned at the police station.
Five people, including the principal, were arrested last month in connection with the Ishan Uday Scholarship scam in the Barpeta district.
It may be noted that a scam occurred in a few colleges in the state’s districts in which crores of rupees were embezzled in the name of the Ishan Uday Scholarship.
The Ishan Uday Scholarship is a program where the union government grants the scholarship to deserving students from minority communities.
