India Announces 15-member Squad for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup

The All-India Women’s Selection Committee announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 on Wednesday. The tournament is set to begin on February 10, 2023.

Team India will kick off their campaign against arch-rival Pakistan on February 12 in Cape Town.

Harmanpreet Kaur is set to lead India for the third consecutive time in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup with Smriti Mandhana acting as her deputy. Shikha Pandey, who last played a T20I for India in October 2021, has been named to the 15-member squad for the marquee event.

Pooja Vastrakar was injured prior to the series against Australia earlier this month. Though she has been named in the squad, her inclusion is subject to fitness. Anjali Sarvani, the left-arm pacer who made her T20I debut against Australia, is also included in the squad.

India is in Group 2, alongside England, West Indies, Pakistan, and Ireland. The semi-finals will be played between the top two teams in each group at the end of the group stage. The final will be held in Cape Town on February 26, 2023.

Reserves: Opener Sabbhineni Meghana, all-rounder Sneh Rana and fast bowler Meghna Singh.

Team India will compete in a tri-series tournament beginning January 19, 2023, prior to the T20 World Cup. India will face West Indies and South Africa in the tri-series.
