Indian cyclist Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam from Manipur, a participant in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), has shattered a national record in the men’s spring qualification event at the Asian Track Cycling Championship in Niali, Malaysia.
Ronaldo’s exceptional performance secured him the 10th position and a spot in the Round of 16 in the men’s sprint category.
The Sports Authority of India (SAI) proudly shared the news on Twitter, highlighting Ronaldo’s remarkable achievement and emphasizing that he completed the 200m Flying Time Trial in an astounding 9.877 seconds, surpassing his previous national record by 0.033 seconds.
In the previous edition of the tournament in New Delhi, Ronaldo made history by winning a silver medal in the senior category. This win made him the first Indian cyclist to accomplish such a feat in a continental competition.
Ronaldo’s exceptional skills also earned him bronze medals in the 1km time trial and team sprint events during that tournament.
