22-year-old arrested for derogatory Facebook post against Manipur’s Chief Minister, BJP

Nov 9, 2022: Manipur police have arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly posting derogatory Facebook posts about the ruling BJP and Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

He has been identified as Laishram Malemnganba, and he was arrested by the police on Monday from his home in Waiton, Imphal East district in response to a complaint filed by Manoharmayum Barish Sharma, the state BJYM president.

The complainant stated that Laishram’s comments cast the BJP in the wrong light.

Malemnganba has been charged under various IPC sections, such as 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 298 (uttering words or making statements with the intent to wound religious feelings), and 500 (punishment for defamation).

The matter is still under investigation.
