Nov 17, 2022: Abhishek Banerjee, national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress, will be in the northeastern state for two days starting Thursday.
Banerjee will inaugurate a party office in Garo Hills on November 17, according to a TMC official.
“On November 18, he will interact with church elders at Sacred Heart Shrine in Tura and hold a public meeting at new Tura playground. He will also interact with media personnel there. Banerjee is scheduled to hold an organizational meeting with the leaders of the state,” a TMC official said as reported by PTI.
The TMC took over as the main opposition party in the Meghalaya Assembly in November last year, after 12 of the state’s 17 Congress MLAs defected to the Mamata Banerjee-led party.
Following its landslide victory in the West Bengal assembly elections in 2021, the TMC tried to expand its base in Goa, Haryana, Tripura, and Meghalaya.
Previously, the party contested in the Goa assembly elections and Tripura civic elections.
